Volunteer selection
Background & Justification
Ohio State University Extension engages thousands of volunteers each year, giving their time, energy and talents to develop, implement, and evaluate educational programs for youth and adults across the state.  The organization values the contribution that volunteers make and recognizes the impact they have on members and service recipients.  Furthermore, the organization recognizes the importance of selecting volunteers who have the capability and potential to effectively deliver and support programs and serve as positive role models.

Over the past ten years, increased attention has been directed toward the identification, selection, training, and evaluation of volunteers.  Increased expectation of parents, guardians, and other caregivers, new legislative initiatives, and the strengthening of the organizations commitment to volunteerism has led the way for the revision of policies and procedures related to volunteer selection.  Recognizing the need to provide guidance and support for the selection of volunteers, this resource has been developed for use by all Ohio State University Extension personal, at the county, district, and state program implementation level.
